I needed help but am ashame to tell anyone in rl.I have spent close to 400USD in the past 4 month on mobile game loot boxes,I mean I already got everything needed in the game but I clicked buy when feeling down or stressful. Now I got no money in my bank,I no I am in no position to complain here as compare to other member but I am stuck in this gambling style micro transactions
Have you looked into Gamblers Anonymous?
Also, just as a side note, did you by chance recently switch to Abilify? It has been linked to gambling addiction.
I’m so sorry to hear you’re struggling… I struggle with shopping for food addiction… @Ninjastar do you think abilify contributes to my shopping addiction?
I dont know. As far as I know, it has only been linked to gambling addiction. I had a friend experience a shopping addiction on viibryd though, even though it isn’t a listed side effect.
@Ninjastar. I think I’m gonna talk to my nurse about it today… Because before I wasn’t addicted to shopping but soon after taking abilify mantaina it started
Micro transactions are instant dopamine for your brain, which it needs when the mood is low. Try to find other dopamine providing activities
@Gtx1990, out of discretion, I won’t say it, but I know you’ve had problems with other addictions in the past. Are you on Abilify or seeing a therapist?
I had to use Google to learn what these are.
Welcome back to the forum. Feels like you’ve been gone for a while.
I have a friend who falls into traps of gaming microtransactions. For me it helps to rationalise the system they are in. Do I really want to play games that are pay to win? Do I really think these skins look worth real money? And if so, how much will I be able to wear them? What else would this money get me in real terms.
I can definitely regulate my spending quite well. You need to keep in mind a lot of these games are designed to fleece you, and make you feel like you need to spend to have a chance, and you will lose if you don’t input money - and in those cases I would just stop playing them. You aren’t really going to have fun playing them without money, and why should they take your money. I think mobile games are the worst for this tbh.
Is there a reason you stopped with PC gaming?
From FDA website:
“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning that compulsive or uncontrollable urges to gamble, binge eat, shop, and have sex have been reported with the use of the antipsychotic drug aripiprazole (Abilify, Abilify Maintena, Aristada, and generics)”
I didn’t have the gambling one but had all the others bcz of Abilify. These all stopped once I switched to Latuda. Now on Risperdal, no issues either.
I am only on Olanzapine 5mg.Started melatonin 3 months ago
@Aziz @Ninjastar my nurse switched me from abilify mantaina to vraylar
I play project qt and I spent 50$ on my girls and stuff and getting the members monthly card that gives you a boost to buy special items with the stars.
Stopped after that, but I still play
