Yes. It was Hitler. He made one catastrophically bad, war losing decision after another, and each decision inflicted terrible suffering on his own people.

If people can see what is coming before a tyrant gets into power they can save both themselves and the world a lot of pain. If they think beforehand they can stop a naked grab for power.
