Sometimes the greatest barrier to doing really well at something is psychological, rather than lack of ability.

A timed numerical test that I did. It would probably be easy for the maths maestros here, but I’m not one of those. Usually I reach a point where I look at a question and think ‘no beeping way can I answer that one’. The same goes for the questions after that. Questions with long strings of digits.

Somehow I kept calm. I didn’t go into headless chicken mode- as I usually do. Something clicked in my brain, as to how to work them out, and I managed to score 47/50 .

The emphasis on physical education in school was on competing with others. They never taught me to appreciate a nature walk or paddling across a lake or down a river. If they had I might have developed healthier habits sooner in my life. Phys-ed needs to take the psychological needs of the different students into account. The problem is that most phys-ed teachers are hardcore jocks and those are the students they are there for.
