A question for people in UK

hey guys,

I have a diagnosis of Schizophrenia and I am stabilized on Clozapine, etc.

I want to go to the UK to work and was wondering whether I can visit the GP for free and pay the same for prescriptions as UK citizens? (I am a passport holder of an EU member state)

Pre brexit I think you can access anything a UK citizen can…

Though I don’t think you can claim benefits straight away.

ok, how much will I pay for prescriptions?

I’m on benefits so get mine free, but it’s £8.60 per item…

How much does it cost to see a psychiatrist in UK if you have been referred by a GP?

I believe it’s free to see a pdoc

Free healthcare system but the prescriptions aren’t free unless you have an exemption

Come to Scotland. Prescriptions here are free for all.

Perhaps if we can’t give you a satisfactory answer you could contact your British embassy?

@remmie15 its free in uk to see gp then refer from gp to pdoc x

@remmie15 if you have eu travel insurance card or if you get travel insurance you can get some exemption from prescription charges. there is an online chat on lloyds chemist uk if that helps they migh be better people to talk to about scrip[ts and how they are worked out

I’m from the U.K. and on a relative expensive antipsychotic depot (paliperidone) and I don’t pay anything towards it.

Here in the UK all medical treatment is free on the NHS. You won’t have to pay anything towards a GP or Psychiatrist. You may have to pay towards your prescriptions but there are numerous ways to get an exemption from this ie depends on what benefits you are on, what part of the UK you move to. If you do have to pay for your prescriptions it’s a very affordable fixed price.
