A lot of us are on SSDI, thoughts on UBI? Universal Basic Income?

Capital gains are taxed at a much lower rate than salary or regular dividends.

True.

I’m going to bail out of this thread because I want it to go back to the topic.

I think it’s a great idea. I’m from the United States and I think that since it’s such a rich country, no one should have to be destitutely poor, whether theyre, disabled, working, or not. Enough to cover rent utilities and food, if it replaces food stamps.

I have hopes it could reduce or even end chronic homelessness.

I am very much hoping UBI is introduced in Australia. Homelessness is a big problem here too, and I am very scared it may happen to me in the future.

It is sad that homeless people suffer from mental illness at least a large portion. Before my illness, I figured if I was ever homeless I could get back on my feet. Schizophrenia changed me and I would no longer make it alone.

I also didn’t realize how disabled some people are and the discrimination against them. I was niave.

I believe that if certain populations get excited and vote, and conservative truckers are put out and vote, that a UBI candidate and platform could be possible.

I also don’t think it would be the end of the world. I just don’t think it would be a magical fix all either though.

Ultimately the AI cars are coming and truckers are either going to lobby to hold back the tech and face the brunt of all the industry that want it…and some how get an argument that didn’t stop the advent of AI car testing on public roads to some how hold water or get violent enough to be such a destructive force that any alternative is too costly.

I don’t know, I don’t think they got it in em.

Eventually I see it happening, but probably more when it comes to ai outsourcing not only blue collar jobs, but also a lot of white collar jobs.

I think culturally Americans want to be productive and I feel that urge, and I’m still not settled into accepting disability long term, so who knows. Maybe I buck the trend and find a skill set and a job I can do, or I falter but I don’t think sitting on ass all day dinking around on videogames is fulfilling enough that people throw years and years of their lives away before they give up on trying to make something of themselves.

So is this the socialist idea? Why would people work hard to employ others take risk to make a similar amount as their employees. So people that choose not to work can be lazy. The dissabled excluded of corse. Why strive for better production in your job when you get paid the same as some slacker . Competition is good. And the wealthy will leave your country they are not tied down they will take their jobs with them. We live better than kings did centuries ago. Glad to be a lower middle class in a country that has modern technology. Great full that we live better than our parents did. Thankful we have meds that most all of us have access to. Way better than being in the 40’s before antipsychotic meds.

The strong survive and procreate, the weak die and perish. This is a fundamental law in nature.

There will always be poor people in whatever century of any country a human lives in. This is fact. A world where no human lives in poverty is an outlandish concept.
