A harrowing account of a 1970 ‘leadership seminar’ spotlights self-help’s dark side

I could say the same thing about an AA meeting I went to. They say that, “There are no bad AA meetings”, and for the most part that is true. But I went to one meeting that made me think I was in the twilight zone. This one woman, who I think had been sober a while, was bragging about how many people she had “gotten” for what I took to be petty reasons. Her final sentence was, “I might have gotten you, and you might not know it was me who got you”. Then another guys was talking about how “Women had no conscience”, and another guy who was looking to get back with his old motorcycle gang. I never want to go to an AA meeting like that again.
