1979 The Walkman

For the first time when in public, you didn’t have to make small talk with strangers…just slap on the headphones and shut out the world.

It was the beginning of the end of civility.

I still like the older technology…VCR’s…The Walkman…CD’s…Vinyl Records…etc.

In 1985 I bought my then-girlfriend a VCR…over $500.00! I think you can get them now at pawn shops for like 15 bucks.

That’s why they told me I kept failing the hearing test to join the military. Listened to loud music the whole bus ride there. Didn’t do it the last time and passed.

Now it’s all about streaming on Spotify

Love the simplicity of old technology. You put a tape in and that’s what your are listening to. Now you have acsess to a eternal library of music. It can make people stressed out I would think. Making playlist, wondering what to listen to next. Too much thought in place of what should be pleasure.

You’re operating from the false assumption that I want to talk to other people. Nothing irritates me more than a stranger trying to start a conversation.

I enjoy it. Convenience with minimal expense. I think the only people who are stressed by it are the people who always have to be stressed by something.

Oh the Walkman! Sony was making innovations back then. What happened now?

Too much money for too little function.

Haha :joy: I’d irritate the crap out of you then. I’m a pretty friendly person. Men often think I’m flirting (which I’m not).

No one can talk to me unless it’s important in public if I go out.

I don’t talk to strangers.

I’m very stressed in public so I can’t. I may be seen as rude and not nice.

I completely understand that.

So the Walkman came out in 1979? I thought it came out in the 80s. I remember having one as a kid.

Downloaded a retro cassette music player from the AppStore.

Looked great. But didn’t work.

I don’t like talking to strangers or even my neighbors.

A far away hi will suffice - sometimes
