Why Is Marijuana Harmful in Schizophrenia?

Marijuana lowers the threshold for schizophrenia symptoms (it can … “can affect social interaction, formation of emotional memories, and reward salience or importance” - making the positive outcome for a person less likely.

To investigate why, Canadian researchers studied the interaction of cannabinoid and glutaminergic signaling systems in a series of rat experiments. -

I thought it was cuz schizophrenics have high dopamine anyways and weed increases dopamine to even worse an extent. Maybe I’m making that up though…

Which, translated, means “makes the onset of sz more likely.”

Virtually all of the research I have seen on marijuana per se (vs. its cannabanoid isolates, which are not “marijuana per se”) suggests that it’s bad juju for anyone with the genetics that predispose one to sz or any other form of psychosis.

Worse than lsd they say. What are your thoughts on other drugs, hallucinogens and stimulants and other psychedelics impact on threshold of sz??,… Not enough research yet? Or what?

There’s plenty, but one has to read it very carefully and come from a lot of basic, conceptual knowledge one usually only gets in a doctoral program on neuropharmacology, to be able sort through the complexities (see below some of the ■■■■ I had to read.)

Suffice it to say that after having read that stuff, I wouldn’t take any hallucinogenic or psychedelic drug now (knowing how my brain has been “remodeled.”)
