Old poem about growth and loss of innocence

There sits a little girl
Haunted by her dreams
There are demons all around her
Yet she can’t seem to find the means
To open her eyes and realize
The monsters are of her own design

There sits an older girl
Fighting to the nail
To survive in the twisted world
Her mind has birthed in the confusion
Of her life, which becomes entwined
With dreams, a great delusion

There sits a young woman
Grinning ear to ear
And decimating all the creatures
Which she used to fear
Humanity has left her
And left a beast in its place
And when they ask her why she has that Cheshire smirk upon her face,

She laughs to herself,
“If only they knew”
“If only they knew”

I hope you don’t feel like that anymore though.

I still don’t feel entirely human. I feel as though I’ve been trained since early childhood to be a warrior. I’ve always been fighting and fighting.
