Kidney function monitoring vital for people on lithium

My current psychiatrist suggested that I do not start lithium treatment - she said that it would mess my thyroid function again - I was on lithium for years in the past. She was also against it because of the damage it does to the kidneys.
My current family doctor was not enthusiatic about lithium in general - Its a good mood stabilizer for classic bipolar symptoms, but not very good for ones physical health

I was tested for diabetes insipidus after being on it 13 years. I remember having to pee into bottles, and having to walk a distance each time to get to a toilet for some privacy to do it.
It was quite a rigmarole. The tests were inconclusive ie ,to quote the doctor, ’ more than normal but not abnormal’ .
The investigation ended on that ambiguous point.
