Health & Medicine - Culture sets the tone when people 'hear voices’

The research, Luhrmann observed, suggests that the “harsh, violent voices so common in the West may not be an inevitable feature of schizophrenia.” Cultural shaping of schizophrenia behavior may be even more profound than previously thought.

I have wondered about the impact of culture or environment on how voices present themselves. My son has limited negative impact from voices as his life is not impacted much by media, government or other types of conspiracy theories. I wonder how Canada would compare in a study like this.

I’ve read a LOT of stuff on this. So much of our culture down here is bombarding. Our commercials, our video games, what we view as fun entertainment… it’s all pretty violent and horrid. It makes sense that my area, my culture would effect my head circus.
