Going to try to be more Social

I talked to both my therapist today and Case Manager and they both are going to try to find a Clubhouse or Day Center for me to go to for a couple of days a week.
I’m tired of being a Vegetable, rotting in my house.

I have a lot of Social Anxiety so it’s not going to be easy for me but I really need to meet other people who face the same challenges as me.

Any one attend a Club house? or Social group?
I think that it’s about time.

“clubhouse” just doesn’t sound like an adult thing, I can’t help imagining a bunch of kids in a treehouse or something. and day center sounds like daycare to me. for some reason reading the word “clubhouse” has me thinking of pee wee’s playhouse, even though that show was before my childhood and i never watched it.

I don’t. But today I left the house to get my meds as I was having a good day. While in town I met someone I knew and had a chat with them for about 5 minutes and felt sooo good afterwards.

So I think there’s a lot to be said for socialising.

I don’t like the term Clubhouse, but isn’t this what it’s called?
You know, a social gathering center for those suffering with a severe mental illness.
I hate the term “consumer” by the way.

I agree, we do get treated like children sometimes.

I used to attend “group therapy”, it was just called a group. I guess it was a bit more structured than the programs you are talking about.

The thing to remember about socializing is that it is harder in your head. Once you get out there and do it it becomes easier. Have fun!:smiley_cat::speaking_head::dark_sunglasses:

No I’m not talking about a support group.
I attended enough support group sessions in the Hospital.

I’m talking about attending a Social group of some kind.

I just found out that there are a couple of social groups, cooking classses for those suffering with Schizophrenia in my area.

Im going to look into it.

I know what you’re talking about but I’ve never been to one, @Wave. It sounds like a positive experience, though. I do get out once in a while to socialize with a friend over coffee and that always makes me feel good. Best wishes to you with the clubhouse thing. Hope it works out for you .

That’s excellent Wave! And you probably just did the hard part of asking your therapist about one. I wish I was as brave as you. Good luck to you!

I currently volunteer at a day program for people with brain injuries. It’s a fun time. We have activities the members can participate in, but they can also just go hang out in a back room if they want. We mostly do art projects, play cards, or play video games. Everyone seems to like it, and they all get along really well.
