As a rule, schizophrenics don’t get the medical care they need.

I’n going for a rectal exam in about two hours, and I’d just as soon avoid this one.

Yeah, those exams can be a real pain in the ass, lol.

I’m constipated at the moment

I hope your exam goes well, but I have to disagree that sz don’t get the medical care they need. I like a lot of sz are on disability and therefore receive both Medicare and Medicaid. It’s great insurance. My doctor is awesome and any specialist I need to see is covered. All of my medication is covered, glasses, dental. :sunny:

This summary of recent research was posted by @firemonkey a few days ago. It synthesizes the latest research on healthcare inequalities among people with schizophrenia. In essence, people with schizophrenia receive less, and less appropriate, care than those who do not have schizophrenia.

My medical care has been extremely poor.

So has mine. Even though I have Medicare, a lot of docs in my area don’t accept it. And some of the docs I’ve seen that DO have gone as far as insinuating that I’m hallucinating medical problems. Many docs just write you off as soon as they see your psych dx, sadly.

Other times, docs mean well and try to help with your medical problems, but aren’t properly equipped to handle the complexities of several diagnoses at the same time, thus under-treating many.

I’m glad that some people have had good access to proper medical care, but the reality for most of us is quite the opposite.
